Jan Makower

Although Jan is now a full time artist and tutor her interest in art came later in life. Previously she was a qualified nurse and graduated with a degree from Loughborough University in Human Biology. When her children were small her father (the watercolour painter, Rod Munro) gave her a painting set for Christmas. From this developed a love of painting which, as the children grew up, turned into a career.

Watercolour is her preferred medium but Jan also paints in acrylic and pastel. The essence of Jan’s work is to recreate the feeling or memory of a special place. Paintings start with sketches, photographs and doodles many of which occur on her walks and travels.

Jan now juggles her time between painting and tutoring. As the children grow up she is able to dedicate more time to her passion of painting.
